THE OBC AND OBRS
The Omaha Beach Community Inc. (‘OBC’) and the Omaha Beach Residents Society (‘OBRS’)! It may be confusing to some but Omaha has two separate community organisations and committees.
The OBC
The OBC is the organisation covering all of Omaha, both North and South, and its committee is a key liaison with the Auckland Council. The OBC undertakes numerous projects eg planting, walkways, etc, and advocates for Omaha on important issues. Previous examples include the Auckland Unitary Plan submissions where the OBC was very active in legally pursuing the best outcomes for Omaha (with a successful outcome!), liaising with the Rodney Local Board to ensure the groyne system was maintained and enhanced and new footpaths to be built.
The OBC manages the lease on the Community Centre and the contract with Insite Security. The commitee of volunteers meets every month to review the “state of play” in Omaha and welcomes new ideas and opinions. While membership for North end properties is voluntary, it is strongly recommended as it helps to pay for the security services which are essential to keep our community safe and improvements to Omaha for us all.
You can contact the OBC and committee members by emailing us@omahabeach.co.nz.
THE OBRS
The Omaha Beach Residents Society is an Incorporated Society registered under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 and, as such, its powers of operation are limited to what is provided for in its written constitution.
The OBRS represents the interests of Southern end Omaha property owners. When land is purchased from the developer, the purchaser must become a member of the Society and agrees to be bound by the provisions contained within the constitution. When a property is on sold that obligation follows to any future purchasers. Members of the Omaha Beach Society Inc. automatically become members of the Omaha Beach Community which represents the wider interests of all property owners at Omaha Beach.
Membership of the Society is compulsory for all section owners. The current annual levy is $225+GST which is invoiced annually on 1st July each year.
